Our house is located on Old Makena Road overlooking Makena Bay, right across the street from the famous "5 Graves, 5 Caves" scuba diving and snorkel site. There is public access to the beach path here which you can follow across the lava outcroppings and down onto a nice rocky beach for beach combing and then continuing on north towards the Makena Surf condos, you will encounter a small, secluded, hidden beach known as "Chang's Beach". Just beyond that is Po'olenalena beach. You can easily walk, but there is public parking for both beaches.
Less than 100 yards across the street to the south is Makena Landing. There is a very easy put in so this site is very popular for scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking. There are public bathrooms and showers.
Continuing down Old Makena Road to the south about 1/2 mile, you will encounter the beautiful sandy beach at the Maui Prince Hotel. There is public parking and public restrooms on the mountain side of the road and a drop-off area on the beach side. This is a great beach for swimming, sunning and walking.
The Maui Prince hotel is just down the road. A very nice place for a stroll, dinner or Sunday brunch.
