Our house is located on Old Makena Road overlooking Makena Bay. South on Old Makena Road is Makena Landing. In the early
1900s the landing was used to load cattle onto ships. There is excellent snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding available along
with public restrooms and nice grassy areas for picnics. On the weekend this is a very popular place. Continuing south there are
numerous vacation homes before reaching the Keawala'i Church. This church as been here since 1832 and is one of the prettiest
places on Maui. Across from the church is a public parking lot and restroom for Maluaka Beach further along the road. This beach
fronts the Makena Beach Resort and is a great sandy beach. Excellent snorkeling on either end of the beach. There is a small gift
shop/general store at the hotel. We walk to get our newspaper there each monrning.
North on Old Makena Road is the famous "5 Graves, 5 Caves" scuba diving and snorkel site. There is public access to the beach path
here which you can follow across the lava outcroppings and down onto a nice rocky beach for beach combing. Continuing on north
towards the Makena Surf condos, you will encounter a small, secluded, hidden beach known as "Chang's Beach". This is our favorite
sunset destination. There is a small parking lot for this beach.
Just beyond the Makena Surf Resort is Po'olenalena beach. You can easily walk from the house, but there is public parking lot as
well.
There are beach chairs, umbrellas and coolers available for your use. The best thing to do on Maui is Nothing! Sit on the beach,
watch the ocean (and the whales in the wintertime) and enjoy the magnificent views.
